ABOUT

SECTION Magazine private labels quality journalism in technology, design, culture, and the arts. In addition, we develop and create custom limited-edition publications and live presentations.

Our content has been published by HuffPo Arts and Culture, The Miami Herald, Time Out, Communication Arts, Creative Pro, Voyageur Press, and other established media outlets. We are often first to the scoop or have stand-out coverage and imagery sought-after for social channels.

SECTION is often a chosen source for other media outlets in art fair opinion and style features. You may have seen us in broadcast coverage during Art Basel Miami VIP previews on NBC Miami, CBS Miami, and Fox News New York — and in images by Getty, BFA, Shutterstock, Miami TV, and many more at opening events at all major Miami Art Week fairs including Scope, NADA, Untitled, Design Miami/, and Pulse. We are embedded in the fabric of the international art and design community with a non-stop passion for fostering creativity to enhance our lives — and the lives and livelihood of others.

TEAM

kHyal began her professional art career in Los Angeles. She first worked for Richard Tobey in the art restoration and period framing trade on projects for The Getty, LACMA, and private collectors including Mrs. Bob Hope and Steve Martin.

kHyal was recruited by Joan Wheeler Ankrum as her assistant at Ankrum Gallery. A gallery of considerable note, some of Ankrum’s initial funding came from Joseph Hirshhorn who became a loyal patron, along with his wife Olga. The Smithsonian Archives of American Art, which now holds the gallery’s archives, notes that Ankrum Gallery “was among the earliest to exhibit the work of black artists.” A 1971 New York Times article about women gallery owners in Los Angeles noted that Ankrum Gallery was “the largest in sales and size in La Cienega Boulevard” at the time. Ankrum was a co-founder of the Art Dealers Association of America and an active member of the Black Arts Council. Ankrum also helped organize the Monday Night Art Walk program on La Cienega Boulevard.

kHyal learned the ropes of the art world from Joan, and what started as a relationship through employment, grew into a deep and lasting friendship. Ankrum Gallery also went on to represent kHyal as an artist, which led to her first commissions from private collectors.

In recent years, kHyal has worked with museums and cultural institutions as a creative lead on experiential design projects. She has contributed to significant initiatives for the new Whitney Museum of American Art, Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, BRIC Arts Media, NYPL, and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

kHyal writes professionally for startups, non-profits, small businesses, global public companies, and various media outlets.
